Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out students' mistakes in solving sequence and series problems based on the Kastolan theory. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with 10 semester VI students (Faculty of Teaching and Education-Iqra Buru University) as subjects in the Mathematics Education Study Program for the 2022/2023 academic year. The data collection technique was carried out in the form of a written test consisting of 4 description questions. From the results of the analysis of student errors based on Kastolan theory, there are only 2 categories obtained from the three types of errors as a whole, namely: 1) Types of Conceptual Errors by 65% This type of Error is included in the "High category" 2) Types of Procedural Errors by 85% Types of Errors this is included in the "Very High category" and 3) Types of Engineering Errors of 93% This type of Error is included in the "Very High category". Based on the results of the analysis of student answers obtained, the cause of students making these mistakes is that students are still not careful and careful in observing the questions, the concept of sequences and series is still weak, and students' mathematical abilities are still weak..
